About Sustaining Rhythms

No musical experience is required. Everyone can participate.

Sustaining Rhythms creates engaging and inclusive drumming experiences that bring people together through the universal language of rhythm.

Through interactive drum circles and rhythmic activities, participants experience connection, creativity, wellbeing and the simple joy of making music together.

Programs are tailored for schools, aged care communities, community organisations, wellness groups and regional communities throughout Western Australia.

Meet Glenn Huxtable

Hello, I’m Glenn Huxtable, founder and facilitator of Sustaining Rhythms.

My passion is helping people connect through rhythm. I believe that everyone has rhythm, regardless of age, ability or musical background, and that making music together can create powerful experiences of connection, belonging and wellbeing.

My sessions focus on participation rather than performance. The aim is to create a supportive and enjoyable environment where people feel comfortable joining in, expressing themselves and sharing the experience with others.

Whether working with school students, seniors, community groups or wellness programs, I strive to create sessions that are inclusive, uplifting and memorable.

Training & Facilitation Background

My facilitation approach draws on a range of recognised community drumming, wellbeing and social-emotional learning programs.

I have completed facilitator training in the HealthRHYTHMS® Group Empowerment Drumming program and am a trained DRUMBEAT® facilitator.

My community music facilitation practice has also been strongly influenced by extensive training with Village Music Circles, the internationally recognised community drum circle approach founded by Arthur Hull. Over many years I have participated in three six-day facilitator trainings in Hawaii, a four-day mentor leadership training, and a further ten-day facilitator and mentor training in Scotland.

These experiences have helped shape a facilitation style that emphasises participation, inclusion, creativity, connection and community building through rhythm.

While drawing upon recognised facilitation approaches, every Sustaining Rhythms program is tailored to suit the unique needs of the group, organisation and community being served.

Why Group Drumming?

Group drumming is one of the simplest and most accessible ways for people to come together.

Participants often experience:

  • Increased social connection
  • Reduced stress and tension
  • Improved confidence and participation
  • Greater group cohesion
  • Enjoyment and laughter
  • A sense of achievement and belonging

Because no previous musical experience is needed, everyone can contribute from the very beginning.

Our Approach

  • Every Sustaining Rhythms session is designed to be:
  • Inclusive
  • Interactive
  • Supportive
  • Accessible
  • Adaptable
  • Enjoyable

Programs are tailored to suit the needs, abilities and goals of each group.
