“Healing doesn’t happen through drumming, it occurs as a result of the relationships that are made among the people in the room” — Arthur Hull, as reported by Greg Whitt (DCF).
Sustaining Rhythms offers fun hand drumming, percussion and music based activities for all ages, abilities and occasions.
We are all creatures of rhythm.
From the very moment we come into being, we are each immersed in the rhythm of our mother’s heartbeat, her speech and movement, until the day we are born.
We take our first breathes in rhythm. Our heart continues to beats to it’s own rhythm. We learn to crawl, walk and run in rhythm. We use rhythm to commit new knowledge to memory, and to learn.
Our minds and bodies are regulated by subtle rhythms. When these rhythms falter, or we lose synchronization, we can become less well.
Almost all traditional cultures have used rhythmic music, and drums in particular, to bring their people together in unity, and in their healing and spiritual practices.
At Sustaining Rhythms, we believe that music is inherent in all of us, and that the rhythm has the power to connect, heal and sustain us.
